Has the study by Dr Havas been out yet? It would be interesting to read more on this!

John Goodman, can ArmorLite bulbs be properly recycled?

Containing mercury seems like a good thing, I wonder if the sillicone doesn't prevent recycling though? It would be interesting to know.. (Or could other, more easily separated and more easily recyclable materials be used?)

I found this site because I noticed that my skin kept getting red, burning and my face looked very irritated after being on the computer. I happened to look around this time to see what could be causing it. I also happened to notice the fluorescent bulb (I'm in a hotel) in the desk lamp. I hate those things and won't use them in my own house. Never knew why, just intuition. Thanx for explaining it all.

To be honest, everything that has not been tested properly always causes the risk, and sometimes in testing they forget to test for everything. I do wonder if it causes the issue, but we can just sit and hope it does not.

Hey Eric,

Do you know of any filter that can be placed over these new CFL bulbs to filter out the harmful UV rays? I'm a photographer and I'm thinking of UV filters that can be placed over the lens. There are also thin gel sheets which do the same. Thanks.

Hi Tiny Hope

Landfills and mercury from CFLs leaking into our water supply will be covered in Part 3 of this series.

You see, broken CFL bulbs are hazardous to your health. Here’s why….

They contain an average of 3-4 milligrams of the neurotoxin mercury.

Did you know one teaspoon of mercury is enough to contaminate a small lake making the fish unsafe to eat?

And in Part 4 I'll tell you all about the electromagnetic radiation and dirty energy emitted by CFLs and how a significant number of people are getting very sick.

Thanks for commenting

In August, Clear-Lite, an environmental friendly lighting company, will introduce its Green ArmorLite bulb, which helps prevent Mercury from spreading if or when the light bulb breaks.

The ArmorLite bulb appears like a standard store bought incandescent bulb. In fact, it is a CFL bulb hidden inside an incandescent light bulb. A silicon, unbreakable balloon-like skin is wrapped around the outer light bulb so if it breaks, the Mercury will be contained.

The silicon skin safeguards Mercury contamination, by not allowing the vapor to permeate the air, an ever-present threat when a regular CFL breaks. Also, its silicon skin not only prevents Mercury contamination, but avoids glass splintering when the bulb breaks.

More information about the ArmorLite bulb is at: http://www.clear-lite.net
